Defence Infrastructure Organisation Abandoned Pipelines Removed from LSBUD
With effect from 30th April 2024 The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) pipelines that were previously identified on an affected LSBUD search (MOD Abandoned Pipelines) will no longer be included in LSBUD searches.
DIO (MOD Abandoned Pipelines) were formerly part of the Government Pipelines and Storage System (GPSS) but have been declared abandoned after being decommissioned by the Ministry of Defence.
All legal rights and land charges have been extinguished in accordance with the Land Powers (Defence) Act 1958 and subsequent legislation. The pipelines remain in the ground and are now the responsibility of the landowner but will no longer be identified in an LSBUD search.
If any works are to be carried out which affect the pipeline, the landowner’s consent should be sought. Bearing in mind the previous use of the pipelines and the different decommissioning methodologies employed, the use of specialist pipeline engineering contractors is recommended for any such work around the pipelines.
