National Grid holds a pivotal role in the UK’s energy industry, transporting energy from producers to local network operators, who bring gas and electricity into homes and businesses.
National Grid own the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. They also own and operate the high-pressure gas transmission system in Great Britain. They transport electricity at high voltage and gas at high-pressure, using the world’s most reliable network of cables, pipes, pylons and wires.
National Grid assets protected through LSBUD will include:
- 4,481 miles (7,212 kilometres) of overhead electricity lines
- 1,391 miles (2,239 kilometres) of underground electricity cable
- 4,740 miles (7,630 kilometres) of high-pressure gas pipe
