As part of its actions to ensure a Net Zero Cambridgeshire by 2045, Cambridgeshire CC Climate Change and Energy Services is installing electricity cables and heat networks under the ground in several locations across Cambridgeshire.

–              Heat network in Swaffham Prior

The Central Area Transmission System (CATS) is a natural gas transportation and processing system. CATS Terminal receives gas 404km via a transmission pipeline from the Central North Sea to Teesside in the North East of England and provides the National Transmission System with approximately 10% of UK demand. CATS started operating in 1993 and has 15km of pipelines onshore in the Seal Sands, Brand Sands and Redcar areas of Teesside.

CEMEX UK’s Rugby plant makes its cement using chalk from Kensworth quarry near Dunstable and clay from Southam quarry some 11 miles from Rugby. Around 4,000 cubic metres of chalk slurry is pumped underground along a 57-mile pipeline from Kensworth each day, passing under the M1 four times on its journey and saving up to 400 lorry movements every day.

Centrica Storage Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centrica plc. We operate the Rough gas storage facility in the southern North Sea and the Easington onshore gas processing terminal in East Yorkshire. Rough is a partially depleted gas field, approximately 29km (18 miles) off the east coast of Yorkshire, which has been converted to a storage facility. It is the largest gas storage facility in the UK, able to meet approximately 10% of the UK’s current peak day demand and to inject and store a large volume of gas.

Diamond Transmission Corporation was established to fulfil Mitsubishi Corporation’s corporate principles – Corporate Responsibility to Society and Global Understanding through Business – by delivering renewable energy to society. They continue to operate offshore transmission lines to provide the infrastructure for the growing offshore windfarm market in Europe.

Blue Transmission is a 50/50 consortium of 3i and Diamond Transmission Corporation. Blue Transmission is owner of four OFTO projects in the UK, totalling 1.3GW of transmission capacity.

Diamond Transmission Partners is a 50/50 consortium of DTC and HICL Infrastructure PLC (‘HICL’). Diamond Transmission Partners is the owner of three OFTO projects in the UK totalling 1.1GW of transmission capacity.

Humbly Grove Energy


Humbly Grove Energy owns and operates the Humbly Grove Oil Field, licence block PL116 near Alton, Hampshire. Natural gas and Oil has been produced from its facilities since the discovery in the early 80s. The company was acquired by PETRONAS in 2008 and currently employs 28 people. Since 1980 the field has produced in excess of 6 million barrels of oil and is forecasted to produce an additional 1 million barrels following the introduction of Gas storage.

In 2017 it won a 950MW contract for difference at competitive auction which set the price of power generated at £57.50 per MWh. OIKOS Storage


Palm Paper’s Paper Mill at their site in Kings Lynn has a working width of 10.63 metres  and is the widest, largest and most powerful newsprint machine in the world. At a speed of nearly 2,000 metres per minute it has the capacity to produce 400,000 metric tonnes of newsprint per annum.

Powering this impressive facility is a combined cycle power plant (CCGT) which is served by a high pressure gas supply pipeline. This pipeline is the asset that Palm Paper will be protecting through LSBUD.
