National Safe Digging Week 2025: A Collaborative Success

29/07/2025
From Monday 7th to Sunday 13th July 2025, National Safe Digging Week returned for its sixth consecutive year and what a week it was. With the theme of “Collaboration” at its heart, the campaign brought together key voices across the utility and infrastructure sectors to promote one simple but powerful message: never dig blind – always search before you dig.
Led by LSBUD, this annual awareness initiative remains a vital part of the industry calendar, focused on preventing utility strikes and promoting safe digging across the UK.

Why “Collaboration”?

This year’s theme wasn’t chosen lightly. Collaboration is the cornerstone of safe digging, and the 2025 campaign focused on uniting stakeholders, from contractors and utility companies to local authorities and infrastructure providers, to work towards a shared goal. By promoting open communication, sharing insights, and aligning best practices, the industry took collective strides toward building a culture of safety that benefits everyone.

A Record-Breaking Webinar

One of the standout moments of the week came on Thursday 10th July, when LSBUD hosted a special webinar on USAG strike reporting. The session broke records with 100 live attendees, which is our highest turnout to date for our Webinar Series.

The session covered what free services they offer that benefit the Utilities Industry and a run through of the recent free to use “USAG Strike Portal” service.

This strong interest reinforced just how essential accurate strike reporting is to the future of safe digging in the UK.

If you missed this then you can either head over to the USAG website to find out more or get in touch at info@utilitystrikeavoidancegroup.org.

Digital Campaign Performance

National Safe Digging Week 2025 also achieved outstanding results on social media, with widespread industry engagement:

These figures taken a few days after National Safe Digging Week ended, highlight the momentum behind the campaign and show that the message is not only being heard but actively shared across the industry.

Highlights from the Week

Each day, LSBUD delivered fresh digital content designed to educate and engage. From safe digging tips to collaborative case studies, the campaign created opportunities for reflection, learning, and action. Customisable templates were also made available for organisations to personalise and promote within their own networks, a tool that many used to great effect. By offering this downloadable pack, the campaign helped remove barriers to discussing the importance of safe digging, making it easier for organisations to amplify the message. This simple yet powerful resource contributed significantly to the success of this year’s National Safe Digging Week.

The result? A lively, industry-wide conversation about safe digging, and the collective role we all play in making it standard practice.

Looking Ahead

The success of National Safe Digging Week 2025 has continued the momentum for an even bigger impact in the future. With collaboration as both a theme and a proven driver of success, we’re more confident than ever that positive change is not only possible but already underway.
